Weddings In Woodinville 2011 – “Winter Wonderland”

View Photos

Weddings in Woodinville … a Wedding in Winter … snowy, icy, clean, crisp.  That is what we created at the Columbia Winery for this year’s bridal show.  Following is a blog post on February 16, 2011 on the Weddings In Woodinville website.

Columbia Winery with its classic elegance is located in the heart of Woodinville’s wine country.  With Its preferred catering, exceptional menu’s and impeccable service, the winery will inspire you and create a very memorable wedding day.  The venue can accommodate 225 guests.  Merry Beth Turpin of Aisle of View transformed the winery into a winter wonderland highlighting how winter weddings are like fire and ice with décor that is shimmery and icy while the ambience is warm and inviting.  The winter wonderland theme of icy blues and soft whites glistened and radiated with a unique style.

Soft white draping surrounded the room and snowflakes lighted the walls.  Rented Elegance provided the beautiful wintery florals and décor to enhance the scene.  Soft seating surrounded the warm and inviting fireplaces.  The ceremony site was unique with its banquette seating and ample white flowers and candlelight.

Classic big band music provided by Chris Graves of Your Song Entertainment filled the room which added to the elegant atmosphere.  Chris and the band stood out in tuxes from Wall Street Custom Clothiers.

Lisa Dupar Catering and Seastar Restaurant/John Howie Steak Catering catered the event with their amazing hors d’oeuvres, an epicurean delight for all guests.

A whimsical Winter Wonderland cake by Mike’s Amazing Cakes completed the look and feel of the venue.

Azzura Photography was on hand to capture the photos seen on the blog, Pascale Collins Calligraphy set the tone of the day with her elegant silver and white paper collateral and program, Steve Cox of Creative Ice hand carved an incredible 3’ high signature drink station , and Olga Earle of La Belle Reve showcased her beautiful wedding gowns and accessories.

Outside guests were able to check out a white vintage car from British Motor Coach – a perfect way to depart any wedding!

They were once Seattle’s best-kept-secret:  a husband-wife team quietly working out of their Bellevue home studio, creating stunning wedding images for a select group of clients.  After winning national recognition and the ‘Seattle Bride Best Photographer’ award two years in a row, Ken and Tania Shepard of Azzura Photography quickly became the Northwest’s most sought-after wedding photographers.  It wasn’t long before Azzura’s unique illustrative-style and raving clients landed them on the elite referral lists of Seattle’s top venues and coordinators, and their weddings are often booked years in advance.

All the buzz hasn’t slowed Ken and Tania from doing what they love most, and their full photography schedule is exactly what they dreamed of when they married seven years ago.  “We often wonder how we became so fortunate, and I think a large part of it is our desire to get to know our couples and create photographs that are not just beautiful, but are also deeply meaningful to them,”  says Ken.  “There is a quality of genuineness in our images that is hard to describe, but you can feel it; when you look at the photographs, you know the moments are real and that our couples are truly being themselves.”

Working with Aisle of View

The Royal Wedding — 1981 vs 2011

The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton stands to be one of the biggest events of 2011. But the couple’s April 29 nuptials are under the shadow of the biggest royal wedding in the last few decades: that of William’s parents, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, 30 years ago. So, because many in Britain and the world will compare the couples – and wonder how Kate will measure up to Diana afterward – here’s a look at the couples by the numbers:

What’s the biggest difference between the upcoming wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton and Prince Charles’ wedding to the late Princess Diana? It’s the power of the Internet. In 1981, most people only relied on magazines, newspapers, tabloids, and television to get their updates about the royal wedding, which was, back then, dubbed as “The Wedding of the Century.” Fast forward to 30 years later, another Wedding of the Century is in the making – that of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

On the wedding day itself, many will tune in not only on the live televised newscast of the wedding ceremony, but on live internet feeds as well. Right after the wedding, you don’t have to wait for the video release of the wedding ceremony in stores or watch a replay on television. Undoubetedly, Prince William’s marriage to Kate Middleton will reach more people than his parent’s own wedding because of the Internet.

Because of my love for weddings, you can bet that I will be glued in front of the television in the early morning hours of April 29 watching this beautiful couple say their vows.

Rented Elegance | Vendor Profile

We have worked with Merry Beth Turpin of Aisle of View for the past fifteen years. We have developed a wonderful relationship with her and her staff. Always professional and very personable, each event we work on together is a pleasure…no matter how complicated the details may get. Merry Beth is thorough, extremely detail oriented and simply amazing. If there is ever a question about one of her events, a simple phone call, text or e-mail will get a quick and accurate response. She double and triple checks details to make absolute sure that everything is on track. We often work together on large, involved events and it is a pleasure to know that she will keep us informed on any changes in the time line or other details of the event.

When a Bride is looking for a coordinator I always tell them to find someone they feel comfortable with. Someone who listens to them and keeps detailed notes of the event as it grows and evolves. A coordinator needs to be organized, know how to easily navigate through the piles of information and converse comfortably with vendors that will be involved. And along with everything else be budget conscious and know when to suggest alternatives. Merry Beth is a perfect fit on every point.

Interview with Beth Campbell, Bride

Beth and Chuck Burow were married on July 3rd, 2010 at the Palace Ballroom in Seattle.  The couple chose Merry Beth as their wedding consultant to create the occasion of a lifetime.  We caught up with Beth recently to reflect on her big day and share some insights from her experience.

Aisle of View: Describe how your hiring me was a benefit to you.

Beth: OMG, how was hiring you NOT a benefit to me!  My goal was an intimate, elegant wedding.  Yes, I could have quite possibly pulled one together, but not without pulling my hair out!  I have very little free time and even less patience, and you streamlined everything.  We told you what we were possibly looking for and you told us the best people out there who would get the job done beautifully.

Aisle of View: On a scale of 1-5 (5 being high), how stressed were you with the wedding planning or on the day of your wedding?

Beth: My stress was at a 1 during the planning, a 2 during the final month.  A 4 on the day that I had to ask a coworker to fill in for me to get to the make-up fitting session with my seamstress (Mariya at La Belle Elaines is the best!) by 5 PM.  The wedding day itself, not stressed at all!  Now, I didn’t say I wasn’t nervous, but stressed, no way!

Aisle of View: Overall, did I meet or exceed your expectations of your wedding day vision?

Beth: You definitely exceeded them.  For instance, I read my trusty little wedding book, and like a good bride, I put together a little emergency kit for any unknown needs the day of wedding.  Well, little did I know that Merry Beth had THE KIT!! About the size of New Hampshire, all labeled alphabetically.

Aisle of View: If you could go back and change something, what would that be?

Beth: Gosh, I really haven’t thought about how I would change anything, really.  I still would have liked to get my cats into the wedding photos.  The dummies wouldn’t cooperate.  What’s new?

Luba and Alex | September 5, 2010 | Golf Club at Newcastle – Newcastle, WA

This wedding was filled with excitement, laughter, dancing, and energy.  The guests were elegantly dressed and the weather cooperated to give this couple a balmy wedding night.  The band was flown in from New York City, the huppa was created out of potted trees, gold fish were swimming in the sweetheart table centerpiece, a cigar roller was brought up from Arizona, and the photographer and videographer were on hand the entire day.

This wedding was breathtaking!  Starting with the bride and groom who were absolutely beautiful, the Rabbi who eloquently officiated at the ceremony, to the awesome view of Seattle during the cocktail hour, and finally to the reception where the band mesmerized the guests.  At the end of the evening, the bride and groom walked through an archway of sparklers on their way to the limo – that swept them away to the Penthouse at the Sorrento Hotel.

I love what I do, and I especially love taking a very complicated wedding and turning it out flawlessly.  My job is complete when the bride, groom, their parents, and guests are raving about the beauty of the day and how this day was everything they had hoped it would be.

“I wasn’t the kind of bride that knew what my wedding had to be like.  It took me months to pick a dress, months to agree on the flowers and decor, but it only took me one meeting to know that Merry Beth was the wedding coordinator that would make me feel safe, calm and assured that my special day would be unforgettable.  Merry Beth is a dedicated and hard working person.  She is always on top of things and there was not one time where my phone calls, emails or questions went unanswered.  Merry Beth is naturally gifted in planning weddings.  She makes brides happy and keeps mothers calm.  Thank you so much for an amazing wedding you put together for us!” — Bride

Angie and Jeff | September 4, 2010 | Harbor Club – Seattle, WA

This was truly a destination wedding.  Except for one groomsman, no one (bridal party or guests) was from Seattle.  The groom had visited the groomsman a few times and loved Seattle so when it was time to select a location for his wedding, he brought Angie out and she agreed it needed to happen here in Seattle.

The rehearsal dinner was held at Hotel 1000 for all the out of town guests.  The following morning, the bridal party was able to enjoy a relaxed time while getting dressed for off-site photos starting at Hotel 1000 and then proceeding to Kerry Park and Pike Place Market.

I loved this wedding!  It was elegant in its simplicity, but there was a feeling of romance and love in the room.  It was everything the bride and groom had anticipated – and more!

And Seattle made a big impression on all the out-of-state guests.

Delaney and Justin | August 28, 2010 | Private Home / Sodo Park – Seattle

I am blessed with awesome couples, and Delaney and Justin were absolutely incredible.  We began work on their wedding about one year prior to their big day.  They were very explicit and involved in what they wanted their wedding to be but, once they had made their decisions, they turned everything over to me to execute.

One feature that I especially enjoyed working on was their welcome bags for the out-of-town guests.  Delaney and Justin wanted the bags to depict the Pacific Northwest and began a search for a piece of art to imprint on a canvas bag.  They found the perfect spawning salmon and then it was our turn to track down the artist for approval.  The bags were filled with Washington products, including a magnet of the Seattle skyline.

The bride walked down the aisle on a bed of rose petals.  There were three floral chandeliers hanging in the tent.  After the ceremony, light appetizers and beverages were served just before guests boarded shuttles that took them to the reception.

The reception at Sodo Park was decorated with yards and yards of sheer draping, lighting all around the room, a gobo light shining on the dance floor, a scotch bar that was revealed after the toasts and a variety of late night snacks, including mini-cupcakes and root beer floats.  A band, photo booth, scrapbooking opportunities for the guest book, and valet/shuttle service made this wedding an evening to remember.

Thank you Delaney and Justin!  I absolutely loved working with you to create a dream come true!

“We just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work the past 13 months!  What a perfect day!  You went above and beyond our expectations and everyone was raving about everything!  We will definitely pass your name along to everyone!  Thank you so much!”  — Delaney & Justin

Alex and Doug | July 31, 2010 | Lakewold Gardens – Lakewood, WA

View Photos Photography by: Sarah Rhoads Photography

A beautiful couple, along with all the elements of a garden party, a rockin’ band, and great weather – how much better does it get??

This couple is the epitome of all things outdoors – hiking, mountain climbing, water sports, to name a few. Their guestbook was a surfboard depicting their love of the water.

The wedding was beautifully orchestrated with the ceremony officiated by the bride’s father’s cousin. The florist took the bride’s vision and created a natural wood arbor with greenery and flowers intertwined around the wood. An acoustic guitar played musical selections not generally associated with wedding music. The officiant read “their story” to give the guests a glimpse into who Alex and Doug are. Instead of a unity candle, Alex and Doug chose to celebrate with a sand ceremony.

The reception took place on the lawn at Lakewold Gardens. The atmosphere was very relaxed, and the guests basked in the beauty of the day. At the end of the day, I heard someone say, “Barbie and Ken do exist!”

Have I mentioned how much I love what I do?? I am blessed to be doing a job I have such passion about and am fortunate to work with awesome couples!

“I cannot thank you enough for our perfect wedding.  It was gorgeous, everything we hoped for, and more.  You had everything planned to a T and kept us exactly on track the whole night.  It really was perfect!  You were amazing and so helpful and detail-oriented (like me;)).  You have me as a full recommender any time you need one!  — Bride

“The best, smartest thing done to prepare for Alex’s and Doug’s wedding was to put you on task. Your attention to them and their wishes plus devotion to detail was exceptional. This decision started with Doug’s typical thoughtfulness and idea, and Alex’s following through to find you. Good on them both!

And good on you for all your guidance and implementation. There is a lot of detail I could refer to, so much in fact that, may I say, if one hasn’t done this before, you wouldn’t know what you were in for until it would be too late.

One thing stands out to my mind. At our initial meeting, it was very clear to me that you would not be happy unless Alex was — particularly with regard to a choice for the wedding site. After clocking several hundred miles driving and looking, I felt you were as happy as we when Alex settled on Lakewold. From that point on, I knew Alex and Doug would be in good hands.

Most people can’t come close to Alex’s organizational skills, and your experience, knowledge, and “in-charge” ability made this a great match for a wonderful wedding.” — Father of Bride

Miranda and Eric | July 23, 2010 | Bell Harbor Maritime Event Center – Seattle, WA

View Photos

The best part of this wedding for me was the connection I had to the bride and her family.  I coordinated her mother’s wedding when Miranda was nine years old – and just last December I had the privilege of coordinating her twin sister’s wedding.  To get to do a third one for the same family is quite amazing!

This bride and groom were so laid back and wanted something completely different from the bride’s twin sister’s wedding which was 6 months prior.  So, we did an outdoor ceremony on the roof of the Bell Harbor Conference Center, we did heavy appetizers instead of a sit down dinner, and had an interactive DJ that had games and props to make the reception more of a party and that much more enjoyable.  Add family and friends to that mix and you have all the elements of a fun and successful wedding.  The crowd danced, drank and partied until 1:00 in the morning and could have kept going!

“My husband and I absolutely adore Merry Beth! We had no idea where to begin planning a wedding and Merry Beth walked us through everything. Because of Merry Beth, our day was filled with celebration and excitement instead of stress and panic. Merry Beth has coordinated my parents wedding and my twin sister’s wedding, too, and we will all be recommending her for years and years to come. Merry Beth – we can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for us! You made our day the best day ever, and we have received endless praise for having you as our coordinator. One of our friends told us she is afraid to get married now because no one can top our wedding – thank you so much for everything!!!”

Beth and Chuck | July 3, 2010 | Palace Ballroom – Seattle, WA

View Photos Photography by: Azzura Photography

Beth and Chuck met at the North Carolina hospital where they were both working, became engaged, moved to Seattle, and started planning their wedding.  Because of their busy work schedules, they decided a wedding planner was in their future.  They knew that they wanted a venue with brick walls, intimate and dark, with lots of candlelight.

Most of their guests flew in for this wedding so they wanted to showcase downtown Seattle.  They were thrilled to find the perfect venue in the heart of the city at the Palace Ballroom.

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed working with Beth and Chuck.  Beth has a great sense of humor and Chuck, though extremely reserved, lets his personality come out when he is on stage singing with his rock band.  I will never forget their anniversary as it is also my anniversary and birthday!

The ceremony was very intimate and personal, and glowed with lots of candles.  Both the bride and groom had specified that they wanted the ceremony to take place in candlelight – no other lights were on during this time.

The bride and groom left to a sparkler send-off as after midnight it was “officially” July 4th.

“Thank you for absolutely everything!!!  Everyone said it was beautiful and we thought so too.  Definitely wouldn’t have happened without you!!
— Bride
